NEW RELEASE: Virtual 7” #1: Light Life/Dark Life
First new release in a while! This is the first release in a series of virtual singles designed to showcase work that’s either unreleased, in progress, or complete. There’s no set timeframe for these things, and they’ll just crop up whenever, I guess. I’ll try to make them a semi-regular thing, depending on the quality of what I’m doing.
The two tracks on this release are left over ambients that were originally supposed to be an intro and an outro (respectively) to this song I had been working on around March or April. The song ended up becoming the foundation for a side-story of the Michael Hess project, and these tracks became a standalone set. (There are a few more bits from that session lying around, but I’ll save those for another release.)

thought i’d make a return by reissuing the Reverse Spring EP!
i spent a day or two this week switching up and enhancing the mixes of the four songs and adding a layer or two of sound as a bonus. new artwork, too, though it doesn’t really matter, does it?

NEW RELEASE: “The Triumph” single-in-progress!
between the debut sessions, the play music, and the hobby project i’ve been recording a lot of stuff (like, a metric ton of new things) and there are some songs i would really like to have everyone follow from demo stage to second draft to completion. today i’m introducing a new feature called “singles in progress,” and it’ll give you an insight at two incomplete takes on one song. it’ll run through the summer, and i plan on having at least ten of these.
the first entry in the series is “The Triumph,” a song that was recently recorded (say, two or three weeks ago) that i can’t seem to find a good groove for. it’s kind of a loud, patriotic jam with a shrill synth horn kind of thing pounding away vs. the repetitive drums and bass. the b-side is called “Blurred Vibrating Triumphs” and it’s a second outlook on the same song, albeit quieter and more ambient-like. the versions included on this virtual single are being actively worked on, and will change by the final product.
i hope you guys enjoy this release, it’s kind of a new, experimental idea for me and i’m simply testing out the waters.

yes! i’ll be releasing a sampler of the three completed summer session songs sometime in the coming weeks! (date TBA)
as the cover shows, the sampler will contain finished versions of “Golden Textured Sky,” “The Fever,” and “Fight or Flight,” three songs which may or may not appear on the debut. they’ll serve as a teaser of what you’ll be hearing (and seeing?) from Some Strange Substance this year. i’ll update the blog with more release info as it’s decided!

i’m pleased to announce that my collaborative EP with Cavalcade has been completed. it’s called Bits and Pieces of Infinity/Dreams, and it’s two different EPs (Cavalcade’s “Bits and Pieces of Infinity” and my own “Dreams” welded into one release that is *almost* album-length but not quite.
you may be wondering “when is this coming out and where will i be able to get it?” well, today is your lucky day — i’ll be streaming the full release on the Music Store immediately, and it will be released for free download this Tuesday, May 18th!
